Well, here we are. Onto the page about THE best author in the world, past, present, and future. Well, what's gonna be here you ask? Well there's going to be a fan page for Sharon Green and one of her series, The Blending. It's going to be sort of like an interview type of thing, but not really. Like, all the info was collected from her through e-mails, and all of it will be in quotes. If she didn't say the exact words (I have the e-mails printed to prove it *wink*), it won't be in quotes....so, on with the show! Oh yeah, the pic above about the warning is not a real threat....well, yes, but you can read the books whenever you like, as long as you don't want much sleep that night!
First off, I'm going to give a little summary of the books.
Book 1-Convergence: Here we have the wonderful introduction to the best written fantasy series ever....the only one that even comes close is Patricia C. Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles. Anyway, that's another whole page, so we'll leave that for later. In Convergence, the 5 main characters, Lorand Coll-Earth magic, Jovvi Hafford-Spirit magic, Tamrissa Domon-Fire magic, Vallant Ro-Water magic, and Clarion Mardimil-Air magic are brought together by fate. This book is wonderfully written. The characters in Ms. Green's novels are wonderfully alive and real. It's like you know them. This book begins the story. A must read. THE BLURB: "In a world of magical adepts, every quarter-century the five greatest talents must be brought together. For only this powerful union of strangers can prevent the prophesied return of the Evil Ones who once enslaved the land.CONVERGENCE Lorand is of Earth, a simple farmer called to the city. Tamrissa is Fire, sacrificing her home to escape an undesired marriage. Clarion is Air, an aristocrat flying free for the very first time. Spirit is the talent of Jovvi, the beautiful, sensuous, and knowing ex-courtesan. And Vallant is Water, a sailor who aches to return to the sea. As one, they must stand against the odious treachery of past masters--and confront a fearsome depravity that hungers for their world. As one they must triumph...or as one they die."
Book 2-Competitions: Here, the plot thickens. We are introduced to the 5 major opponents of the main characters: Delin Moord-Earth magic, Kambil Arstin-Spirit magic, Bron Kallan-Fire magic, Homin Weil-Water magic, and Selendi Vas-Air magic. Again, this book is wonderfully written. The 5 new main characters are brilliant in their scheming. Loved this one, too. Again, READ IT! THE BLURB: "The perfect Blending of the primary basics of the known universe--Earth, Air, Fire, Spirit, and Water--will create unimaginable power. Power enough to hold off the dread Evil Ones for yet another quarter-century...Power enough to rule the world...COMPETITIONS They are the five greatest talents on a beleaguered world of magical adepts--and its only hope for salvation. But first, Lorand, Rion, Tamrissa, Jovvi, and Vallant must prove themselves to be the Chosen Five of the ancient Prophecies. Which means they must first compete in a series of deadly contests designed to reveal the full scope of their powers...and place them at the center of a corrupt nobility's lethal scemes. And there are those who wish them to fail. But defeat is unthinkable...because failure is doom.
Book 3-Challenges:OK. I've finished Challenges, now. Finally. It's been awhile since I last read this, all I remember is, of course, it's EXCELLENT. The rounds to see who the next Seated Blending will be are begun..and all Hell begins to break loose. THE BLURB: The competition has begun. The band of five which best combines elemental magics into the most powerful alchemy will be chosen to win the throne and ward off doom for the kingdom. But the stakes are much higher than anyone suspects. CHALLENGES Each magical adept possesses a potent preternatural talent. Stunning Tamrissa is Fire; Vallant the sailor, Water; Jovvi, the lissome ex-courtesan, Spirit; farmer Lorand, Earth; and blue-blooded Rion, Air. But their fragile union threatens to disintegrate when Jovvi and Tamrissa discover a secret sensuality that would make their blending supreme. And the dissension within is nothing compared to the perils assailing the enchanted quintet from competing nobles and judges alike, all determined to see the peasant mages perish. For as they vie for the Palace of Five, the brave but unwary team rushes headlong into desperate danger...and unknowable jeopardy.
Book 4-Betrayals: This book is SO much better than the other ones! Omigod, this is, like, my favorite book in this series!! I mean, the action and the characters! Everything is SO good!! THE BLURB: Once the five elements--Earth, Wind, Air, Fire and Spirit--were One, when five gifted people joined their magical talents into One. When those five forces--embodied by three men and two women--are Blended, they are the ultimate power against the evil that threatens their world. But there is one weapon against which they cannot fight...betrayal. BETRAYALS On a world of magical adepts, the five greatest talents are fated to unite and rule. But Tamrissa, Jovvin, Vallant, Rion, and Lorand have been cruelly separated , struck down by treachery at the very moment of their greatest triumph. Scattered across a vast empire, the five heroes must escape their prisons and find each other again. For only then will they be able to re-create their Blending, that magical melding of their powers that will allow them to defeat their enemies...and win the path to a throne. MY OWN LITTLE NOTE: The blurb made a mistake....the five aspects are NOT Earth, Wind, Air, Fire, and Spirit....Wind and Air are both Clarion...they forgot Water-Vallant. Just thought I'd let you know, and you know that it wasn't MY fault up above.
Book 5-Prophecy: This book is out!! Woo hoo! Finally, the last one! However, my stupid bookstore didn't have it, so it's being ordered!!
"Actually, the idea for the Blending came from an extension of my admiration for another writer - the late Roger Zelazny. His work was so new and different, with really new ideas, that I decided to make my own step in that direction. My own concepts of magic aren't the giant steps *he* always took, but they did lift me away from the overfamiliar and everyday - I hope." Just to tell you, Sharon, they did. *s*
"There are ten main characters in the Blending books, and in a manner of speaking they're mirror images of each other. They started out as ten people who had the potential to be great forces in their world, but five of them were twisted so badly that they ended up ruining their own lives. The other five could have gone the same way, but they found the strength to resist being completely twisted. Most of them are hurt to one degree or another, but so are most people. The winners are the ones who learn how to heal that hurt, and to feel enmity only toward the ones who caused the pain. Taking out yuor justified anger on innocents is the work of someone who's too afraid to put the blame where it erally belongs. (end of lecture)" Very funny, Ms. Green. I'll always be willing to listen to one of your lectures. They're so knowledgeable. *l* "It's hard to answer a question about how I came up with the characters, because if I answer honestly and say that they couldn't be anything else because that's the way they *are*, either you won't understand or else you'll try to have me locked up." I'd never try to lock you up. Where would I get my fantasy reading material from? *l* "Most often when I writea book, it seems that what I'm writing about is really happening somewhere, in another dimension of time and/or space. In order to get the details I have to start to write the book, otherwise I have no more than a vague and general idea about what's going to happen. As far as identifying with the characters, I feel closer to some than to others, personalitywise if in no ther way, but none of them are *me*. Even if I happen to be writing them in the first person, I still know the difference between us - when I'm not writing the character. When I am, I most often find that I've *become* the character, at least for the time that I'm writing her. I say her, because I won't do a male character in the first person. I know enough men well enough to know that men and women may look at the same thing, but they don't necessarily *see* the same thing. I'm a woman so I see things the female way, but my male fans tell me I've been doing better and better with my male characters. That's a real relief, because I hate to read a female character who acts 'out of character' fora womanin that particular situation. Men must hate the same about male characters just as much."
"This is actually a very good idea. I usually have no way to tell how other writers pronounce certain names, and there are times I'd like to know. And then there's the time a man I knew argued about the pronunciation of the name of one of my books ... It was me he was arguing with ... So here it is: Actually Jovvi *should* be pronounce JOV-VEE from the way it's spelled, but I tend to pronounce it JOE-VEE. Lorad is LOR-END', accent on the second syllable, the letter A slurred. Tamrissa is TAM-RISSA', again with the accent on the second syllable. Callant is, of coure, VALL'-ANT, accent on the first syllable, and Clarion is CLAR'ION. Rion is like RYAN, only with the O (A) slurred. You don't need the same for the bad guys, do you? Their names should be easy to pronounce - but if I'm wrong, say so." You? Wrong? Never....
"As far as *I'm* concerned, I could make a fortune if I wrote the story of my life. It would put every sleeping pill company instantly out of business." *l* For some reason, I doubt that. "I happen to really like a rainy day, and *used* to like thunder. When I don't have to worry about my computer, I still like it just fine ... Where I'm from: Originally born and raised in Brooklyn, then transplanted to New Jersey. My three sons were born there, and then when I took them and left their father we stayed in the state. My oldest son is Andy, who's a police officer here in Franklin, TN, where I live. My second son is Brian, who's a sergeant in the army, MP's. My youngest son is Curtis, who's a troubleshooter for the Jack Lalanne (Bally's) gym people. If a location isn't making money, they put Curtis in charge. It takes him about three months to get the place to break even, and another three to see it making money. As I said, a troubleshooter. Andy and Brian are married, but Curtis is still looking. Andy and his wife Val have also given me three grandchildren, but that makes *them* old, not me. I can still kick over my head and sit in full lotus, something only a few of us kids can do. Hobbies....I like to do matha nd logic problems in my spare time, but I don't get much of it. I also indulge in that dreaded vice, televistion watching, and I never deny it. I follow all the s.f. program but Voyager, which insulted my intelligence for the last time a couple of years ago. After that I found something else to watch in its place. I love mystery programs and books, because I like to see if I can figure out whodunit. I've also written three mysteries for Harlequin Intrigues which aren't bad, but they're simply not in the same class with my favorite mystery writer, John Dickson Carr. If you've never read anything by him, you don't know what you're missing." If YOU'VE never read anything by Sharon Green, YOU don't know what you're missing. "He wasn't called the king of locked room mysteries for nothing. My latest pet hate comes from *some* books but mostly from tv and movies. Am I the only one who's sick and tired of seeing the poor, helpless girl-victim stand there and scream when she's attacked?" No, you aren't. "It's a device to set the 'scary' mood the program or movie people want, but it's so old-hat it's beyond being a tricorn. They're too lazy to think of anything else, so they use the same stupid situation over and over again. And after all the helpless females who have been attacked in movies and on television over the years, aren't they now scarce enough to be considered an endangered species? Come on, guys, try something new. You might even find that you like it." OK. The question eveyone's asking. When will the next book be out, and will there be anything of the Five after the Blending is over?
"For some unknown reason, Avon won't be releasing book 4 until next February. Some people have decided to try a letter-writing campaign to see if they can't get the book released faster, and I agreed to pass the letter on to anyone who e-mails me about the series." If you too wanna send in the letter, go to my SOS Page, which stands for Speed up Our Series. "It has lately come to me that there's more to tell of the original story. Book five ties up most of the loose ends, but I can still see a few that may need taking care of. If Avon comes back to its senses (or if not, maybe another publisher) I'll offer the extra books."
